Des Moines is located at the intersection of Interstates 35 and 80. I-35 is one of the busiest north-south interstate highways in the nation, linking Dallas/Fort Worth, Oklahoma City, Kansas City, Des Moines, and Minneapolis. It stretches from border to border. I-80 is America's prime east-west interstate highway. This traffic makes Des Moines a prime transportation headquarters. By road, Chicago is about six hours to the east, Minneapolis about three hours to the north, Omaha two and a half hours to the west, and Kansas City three hours to the south.
